I'm using it for moderately complex works (making DVD material from various clips of unusual formats). With the usual caveat that your mileage may vary, I'm using FCE 3.5 on Lion and it works exceptionally well. Of course, if you already own an FCE license, then that would be cheaper still. The latter (using FCP-X) is probably good advice if you haven't used anything before it's even cheaper than new versions of FCE ever were. If you are running Lion, you should be considering Final Cut Pro X not Final Cut Express. Just because you can find a way to install it doesn't mean it will run well or even at all on Lion. While FCE 4 will probably run, it is a discontinued product and is not supported on Lion. Then upgrade your Mac to Lion.Įven then, good luck. Then update FCE to v4.0.1 via Software Update. It worked for me for 3.5.x, never bothered with version 4, since 3.5 works fine for me on Lion, and it still includes Soundtrack and LiveType.īasically, you need to be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. As you may have heard, the program and all its components are Universal, but the installer program is PowerPC only. Alternatively, you can install FCE on any machine running OS X 10.6.8 or lower, and then use the Migration Assistant to move it to your Lion machine.
